Heifer Conception Rate (HCR) is a virgin heifer’s ability to conceive. It is defined as the percentage of inseminated heifers that become pregnant at each service. A HCR of 1,0 implies that daughters of this bull are 1% more likely to become pregnant as a heifer than daughters of a bull with a HCR of 0,0. Cow Conception Rate (CCR) is a lactating cow’s ability to conceive. A CCR of 1,0 means an 1% increase in cow conception rate.
The values of HCR, CCR and Daughter Pregnancy Rate (DPR) are combined in the Fertility Index (FI). HCR, CCR and DPR indicate the fertility of the female itself. We also know the Sire Conception Rate (SCR). This is not a genetic trait, but it measures the semen fertility of the bull. A SCR of 1,0 indicates an 1% increase in conception rate when compared to the average 0,0%.
